MEG has been done with SQUIDs (superconducting quantum interference devices) as well which are quite bulky due to the necessity of cryogenics to function. I am not in the know for these fields at all but I suspect that while OPM may have more utility for MEG now, if we get a room temperature superconductor that doesn't require bulky support equipment, SQUID could be the go-to sensor again.

Thanks for writing this! I’ve wanted to do a survey of existing tech we can use to read from the brain for a while, and this is a great starting point. Great post!

This is really helpfwl, but it's probably good to say that the animal research is deeply evil even if it's also educational, if you're going to mention it.
